They say its better late than never! November had some memorable moments that are too important not to mention and it also serves as a prelude to next month’s newsletter. International Stress Awareness Day (Nov 4) is a day to reflect on “triggers that can cause stress, learning how to let go of things that you can’t change, or learning how to use exercise to deal with stress and let go of pent up anxiety” (Holidays Calendar). We can’t be completely stress free, but it can be managed so that it does not negatively consume our lives. It’s important to learn your stressors to avoid physical and mental distress. Stress can also be beneficial and serves as a way to motivate your energy to focus and improve performance.

International Survivors of Suicide Day (Nov 21) was delegated as a day for healing and supporting those affected by suicide. “It was determined that Survivor Day would always fall on the Saturday before American Thanksgiving, as the holidays are often a difficult time for suicide loss survivors” (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 2020). Survivors of suicide grieve the loss of their loved one, and it’s important to shift his energy to bring awareness to others and not allow this trauma to define you. This is why we stress the importance of understanding the reasons and shatter stigmas associated with suicide.

If you or someone you know has talked about contemplating suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
